Anil & Bindu Residence_The home around the mango trees
Site Area : 16 Cents Project Area: 2800 Sqft
This multi-generation house located on a tight urban plot in Vaduthala, was designed for an NRI couple with the goal of exploring the integration of domesticity, nature, and privacy within compact urban spaces. The primary focus was to create generous layouts that could be adapted by different generations while accommodating a future two-bedroom rental unit on the first floor.
The initial phase of occupancy would involve the client's parents residing in the house for the first five to ten years. Following that, the clients themselves would retire and settle in their home. As their children might pursue higher studies or get married, the upper floor needed to be adaptable to switch to a rental unit when required.
The interior spaces followed a pragmatic floor plan, maximizing usable areas and seamlessly opening out into covered balconies. This approach not only increased the efficiency of the house but also created a strong connection with the outdoors. The design aimed to push the limits of efficiency in domestic architecture to meet the diverse demands and desires of multiple generations. The adaptable upper floor, capable of being converted into a rental unit, provided flexibility for changing family dynamics over time.
